The new XC90 is one of the most important models in Volvo’s history. Luckily, it comes at a time when the Swedish company has got some great engineering products in its armoury.
The T8 Twin Engine is the hybrid model in the XC90 range. As Volvo’s first plug-in hybrid, the green XC90 model uses a 2.0 litre petrol engine and electric motor to offer a combined 407hp.
Using purely electric power, the XC90 T8 Twin Engine has a range of around 25 miles before the petrol unit is needed. Volvo developed the Drive-E engine range with electrification in mind and the XC90 T8 Twin Engine proves that the concept works.
Where rivals are using larger engines alongside the electric motors, Volvo can produce more power with greater efficiency, in part because of the future-proofed Drive-E engine range.
The XC90 not only benefits from the advanced engines but also Volvo’s new modular platform and an interior that shows the best practices of Scandinavian design.
A handsome machine inside and out, the XC90 features lots of nice little details such as crystal in the auxiliary controls. With comfortable seats, a high-tech interior and silky smooth driving manners, the XC90 is the hit Volvo needed.
